What Profit Is the World?

The verse, “What shall it profit a man to lose his life and gain the whole world?” often echoes in my mind. I ask myself: what use is it to gain everything this world offers if I lose my true life, my very soul? Why chase after success or possessions if it means living forever separated from God?

I don’t truly own anything here. My work and efforts are meant to add to something far greater – a beauty that lasts beyond my lifetime and belongs to God. So why would I trade my relationship with Him for temporary achievements, knowing that all people, including myself, are mortal?

This understanding humbles me. It reminds me that everything I do should be for the good of others, for the future of my children, and for the honour of the gifts God has given me. Above all, it’s a call to never lose sight of what matters most: being with Him, which is the greatest purpose of all.
