This submission operates in households where both partners see Christ as the head of man and the foundation of the home in the first place.
Outward Appearance
Marriage is far more than just physical attraction. There is no doubt that God created men and women to be physically attracted to one another, but he also intended for this bond to be based on the idea of oneness, where a couple becomes so intertwined that they become one. “Bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh” describes this connection perfectly. Unwholesome Talk
Marriage requires avoiding harmful language and finding better ways to speak to one another to keep it thriving. Granted, it is not always easy to express ourselves in the right way when upset, and sometimes we end up causing more harm than good. Proverbs 15:4 reminds us that the words we use can either uplift someone’s spirit or break it. Therefore, finding a way to speak kindly and constructively to our spouses is crucial. The tongue is a powerful tool that can cause irreparable damage if used carelessly. As Christians, Ephesians 4:29 reminds us to speak only what is wholesome and helpful to our partners. By using gentle language, we can create a safe space where our spouses feel valued and loved.
Forgive and forget
Forgiveness and forgetting are critical in any marriage, and they are both design principles from God. Forgiveness is about letting go of wrongs committed by our partner and choosing not to hold grudges. The act of forgiving involves acknowledging the hurt that was caused and choosing to release the person from the debt we feel they owe us. Forgetting, on the other hand, is about moving on from past wrongs and not allowing them to influence the present or future. Forgetting means that we will not continually bring up past mistakes, and we will not hold them against our spouse.
